Romantic winter getaways

Winter is all about indulging in great food and wine, cosying up by the fireplace, listening to raindrops on the roof, and enjoying the simpler things in life. Escape to the country with your other half and make the most of the South-West while the weather is cool and fresh, the crowds have thinned out and low season prices are in full swing.

The romantic holiday itinerary

Starry-eyed romantics, plan the winter escape of your dreams for you and your other half.

Stargazing

Pack a warm jumper, scarf and picnic blanket for an evening of stargazing. The South-West night sky is unpolluted, free from city light haze, and crammed full of stars and a great view of the Milky Way. The best time of year to see the Milky Way’s galactic centre is February to October.

Winery tour

Wine is synonymous with Margaret River and the region does chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and Semillon sauvignon blanc exceptionally well. For something extravagant and extra-special, take a wine tour with a difference – by helicopter with The Flying Corkscrew. You’ll get private wine tastings, a helicopter flight, and a degustation lunch just for the two of you.

Romantic restaurants

There is no shortage of intimate cafes, restaurants and wineries. Try cosy Italian at La Scarpetta Trattoria in Margaret River or La Casina in Dunsborough or dining at Yarri Restaurant + Bar or Blue Manna Bistro. Another great option is Aravina Estate with one of the best winery views in the area; settle in next to the fire with a glass of wine in hand. Or, indulge in scones with jam and cream and a cup of tea at the cottage-like The Berry Farm.

Photography

Equally breathtaking in winter as in summer, nature in the South-West is begging to be captured in photographs. Bring your camera and shoot the towering forests, rolling hills, stormy beaches and snap a picture or ten while whale watching or kangaroo spotting.

Private chef

Sit back and enjoy the aromas wafting in from the kitchen, while you and your partner relax at home with a glass of delicious full-bodied wine. We recommend Tiller Dining , Olsen’s Catering or Tim Whitty Kitchen Takeovers.

Day spas

There is a wide selection of luxury day spas around Margaret River, Yallingup and Dunsborough that offer pamper specials for couples. Choose from facials, massages, head treatments or half- or full-day indulgence packages.

Concierge service

You don’t have to lift a finger if you don’t want to. We have a dedicated concierge, Sophie, who will organise everything from a wine tour or a secluded picnic, through to elaborate parties or a private jet.

Western Australia may conjure up summer-time images of white beaches, endless sunshine and blue skies, but winter is just as special – especially in an area as lush and bio-diverse as the South-West. We have more than 100 stunning holiday homes throughout the region that will make your romantic escape a reality.
