That Summer Feeling…

Published November 22, 2017 by Private Properties
Here’s why Bunker Bay is the ultimate holiday destination this summer.

One of the things that make the South-West so special is the incredible range of holiday possibilities. A ‘choose your own adventure’, if you like.

If you want a fun group touring weekend, you can do that. If you’re seeking a week full of heart-stopping adventures, that’s also possible. And if you just want to get away from it all in beach-side seclusion and luxury, without being too far from the action, you can have that too. One of the best spots to do the latter is in Bunker Bay.

A ten-minute drive north-west of Dunsborough, you can find spectacular Bunker Bay. You have the best of both worlds here: the wineries and food havens of the South-West are a stone’s throw away, but you get to retreat to relaxation and privacy when the day is done.

Close attractions include the still-functional Cape Naturaliste lighthouse which dates back to 1904, beautiful Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, and Sugarloaf Rock – the perfect vantage point to watch the sunset. The wild, blue waters of Canal Rocks in Yallingup is also only a short drive away, and there’s a wooden walkway over the water for an unforgettable photo opportunity.

Bunker Bay is in prime position for whale watching from September through to December. The Southern Right, Humpback, and even the rarely-seen Blue and Minke whales can be spotted from here. If you aren’t in Bunker Bay around these months, never fear because you are spoilt for choice in the South-West and can see them (or even swim with them!) from Busselton to Albany, almost year-round. Find out more in our whale watching blog.

If you’re a nature-lover and want to experience the local area on foot, try the Bunker Bay Loop. This 3.6km trail will take between one and three hours, depending on how fast you walk, and it is a Grade 3 moderate difficulty level. You can find out more about it at Trails WA. After the hike, you can visit Shelley Cove, on the western edge of Bunker Bay. The water here is full of shells, pretty sea glass and underwater rocks that offer great snorkelling.

There’s also a big plus to staying in the area: many of the Private Properties houses have access to the nearby 5-star Pullman Resort facilities including the gym, tennis court, heated infinity pool, lounge bar and restaurant.

If Bunker Bay sounds like your idea of heaven, let’s turn it up a notch with these stunning luxury homes:

Why would you want to be stuck in a regular old hotel room when you can experience Bunker Bay in style? Panorama has sweeping views of the bay thanks to the huge windows out the back. There is also a sunken pit in the backyard where you can enjoy a leisurely morning breakfast or afternoon drinks. This is one of our newest homes, so book in before the crowds find out about it.

Bare Feet Retreat

Many people feel they are restricted to camping or cheaper rooms if they want to bring their dog on holiday, but the Bare Feet Retreat is happy to accommodate your furry friend. The home is light and bright, with a big courtyard and heated floors. This is perfect for a family escape, winter or summer, for up to six people.

Bunker Downs

This is one cool summer house – crisp styling, beach access and every luxury. Nestled by the ocean, this superb holiday home in Bunker Bay has provision for up to 10 people and is the house of your dreams.

The spacious four-bedroom, three-bathroom home cleverly wraps around an external stone fireplace forming a sheltered courtyard in the middle of the house. The small rear garden’s tall stone retaining wall and natural landscaping of paperbarks and native grasses make a stunning backdrop.

Paperbarks is a gorgeous Bunker Bay holiday house – a holiday oasis where you can be swimming at the beach one minute and relaxing at home the next. This is one of the finest holiday locations in Western Australia and the home will also impress couples and families with its ample spaces and luxurious touches.

One of the best things about this house is that the downstairs kitchen and dining area (with lounge room nearby), opens out to a spectacular back garden. Huge windows and glazed doors bring the outdoors in and you will love seeing such special trees from almost every window.

Farm Break East and West

Each villa will comfortably sleep six adults, with three bedrooms each, two bathrooms and a fully equipped laundry on the single level and be spoilt for choice.  Or for larger groups book both and get double of everything but triple the enjoyment.

Each luxuriously appointed villa is joined by a shared stone wall and central timber doors that can be opened up for the duration of your stay to allow you to enjoy the full run of the property.

Guests will find the track downhill through the bush and over the lake’s floating bridge to the beach is a pleasure in itself. This unique location will surprise and delight.
