Yallingup, Destination Guide
From the bush to the beach, Yallingup has the perfect combination for a relaxed getaway.
Yallingup Beach is the area’s most famous attraction, but Ngilgi Cave (pronounced Nil-gi) is what first brought tourists to the region in the early 1900s. Enjoy a fascinating tour or have a self-guided experience to appreciate the stunning cave formations. Indigenous tour company Koomal Dreaming provides an immersive Ngilgi Cave Cultural tour which includes a magical didgeridoo performance inside the cave. Walkers will love the Cape to Cape Track from Smiths to Injidup Beach, and the Wardanup loop trail from Ngilgi Cave to Yallingup Beach and back. Yallingup Maze provides great family fun, and visit the interactive museum at Yallingup Shearing Shed. Additional attractions in Dunsborough are just 10 minutes down the road.
Yallingup is a beach lover’s paradise with a protected swimming and snorkelling beach at Yallingup Lagoon and three surf breaks (Mainbreak, Rabbits & Shallows) where you might find retired local World Surfing Pro Taj Burrow out on the waves. The adventure playground on the grass by the beach is a kid-magnet! Take some surfing lessons with Crystal at Yallingup Surf School, or hike one of the many walking trails in and around the coastline. Explore Canal Rocks and Smiths Beach, which has its own surf club, or the beauty of Injidup Beach, the natural spa and Cape Clairault. Enjoy beautiful Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park by horseback with Mirravale Riding School.
Historic Caves House Hotel is Yallingup’s hub, open year-round and providing tasty food and live entertainment. The art deco pub hosts twilight night markets and outdoor movies during summer. Shaana Café at Yallingup Beach is a great breakfast option, and take a yoga class by the beach in warmer months. Grab a gourmet burger, breakfast or coffee from the general store and enjoy a crusty loaf from Yallingup Woodfired Bread – best eaten still warm! Art abounds with Gunyulgup Gallery, Yallingup Galleries and Studio Gallery – where you can also dine in style. Other quality restaurants include Little Fish, Lamonts and Chow’s Table. Sneak a hot chocolate or ice-cream from Gabriel’s and visit some wineries – too many to mention individually!
