The best burgers in WA’s South West

Burgers are the ultimate comfort food. Tasty, hearty, and reasonably inexpensive. And what’s even better, there are all sorts of weird and wonderful variations, with the chef’s imagination being the only limit.

What gets your tastebuds leaping for joy? Is it a good old classic hamburger with simple, fresh ingredients and a side of crunchy fries? Or do you find yourself gravitating towards the biggest, zaniest one you can get your hands on? No matter what your preference, you’ll find something to your liking on your South West holiday escape.

Here’s where to get the best burgers in the Margaret River region:

Burgertron

Burgertron can be found in the centre of Dunsborough, near IGA. A recent addition to the local burger scene, it has seriously impressed burger fanatics everywhere. There are nine delish options to choose from, plus a kids selection, crinkle-cut chips, and also fried chicken. If you prefer simplicity, you might opt for the signature Burgertron or Cheeseburger, but if you want something a little different, there’s plenty to choose from. Try ‘The Colonel’ with southern-fried chicken, bacon and pickles, or the ‘Kim Cheese’ with slow-cooked pork, American cheddar and kim chi.

Bayside Burgers

A burger bar that understands we all have different needs. Not only do Bayside in Dunsborough have fantastic beef and chicken options, they are also very vegetarian and vegan friendly. Any one of their burgers can be replaced with a Beyond Burger vegan patty, plus they have vegan mayonnaise and cheese. And those who want all the goodness of a burger, minus the bun, can opt to make any of their famous burgers into a Burger Bowl. Bayside will also look after you if you need gluten-free bread.

Burger Baby

Burger Baby in Margaret River is crowd favourite with ten different burgers – the Brisket Burger is a revelation – plus a whole load of other goodies. And if your dining mate doesn’t feel like a burger, they have the option of fish and chips, chicken parmigiana, slow-cooked beef rib, and more. The sides are also excellent, with poutine (Canadian style fries with gravy and cheese curd), wings, pork bites, and beer battered pickles available. Not to mention a few desserts.

The Greenroom

For a huge menu that will satisfy everyone in your group, take a trip to The Greenroom, located on the main strip in Margaret River. This burger café has around 20 on the menu, including vegan and vegetarian. For those seeking meat, why not grab a ‘Reef and Beef’ with Scotch fillet and calamari, or a ‘Chicken Mexican’ which includes tortilla chips and jalapenos. You might even like to round it out with a thick shake or loaded fries.

Margaret River Burger Co.

Visitors to the outdoor movies at Cape Mentelle might recognise this next one on the list: Margaret River Burger Co. This food truck dishes up big burgers with only the best local produce. If you fancy meat-free, tuck into the ‘Portobello’ featuring portobello mushroom, lettuce, tomato, feta cheese, balsamic vinegar and sauce. Or you might like the fish burger with crispy fish, slaw, tomato, and tartar sauce. You can find them at the Rocky Ridge cellar door in Busselton.

Eagle Bay Brewing Co.

If you want a glass of wine or beer with your burger, plus a stunning view, you’re in the right place. Beautiful Eagle Bay Brewery Co. has two burgers to choose from – the fish or the beef. The beef burger has that little something special: it was one of the original dishes on the menu back in 2010. It’s layered with bacon, mature cheddar, red onion, lettuce, smokey tomato relish, beer mustard mayo, and house-made pickles.

Margaret River Brewhouse

Craving a casual burger and beer with a side of live music? Head to this popular brewery. While Margaret River Brewhouse isn’t a designated burger joint, it does offer up a fantastic farmhouse burger: beef patty, cheese, salad, pickles, bacon, mustard, and chips. Sit outdoors with the forest all around, washing your meal down with a glass or two of their signature beer. And an added bonus for parents, there’s a play area for the kids.
