Things to do in Eagle Bay

Tucked along the northern edge of the Margaret River Region, between Meelup Beach and Bunker Bay, Eagle Bay is home to a spectacular, white-sand bay and a small hamlet of homes all in walking distance of its shoreline. While Eagle Bay will transport you worlds away, it is just a short drive from Dunsborough’s town centre, as well as some of the South West’s most loved wineries, breweries and restaurants. It’s a place where mornings begin in the water, afternoons drift into long lunches, and evenings end with picture-perfect sunsets.

Top Things to Do in Eagle Bay

A study in coastal simplicity, life here is the best kind of simple. Between the beach, bush, boat and board you’ll find space to do as you please, set to a soundtrack of birdsong, lapping waves and rustling leaves. Whether you’re here for adventure, or to find pause, Eagle Bay delivers both in equal measure. Need inspo? Here are some of our favourite things to do in and near Eagle Bay, from Autumn through to Summer.

Cruise the bay

By car, boat or board – cruisin’ the bay is a great way to explore what this part of the world has to offer. Wind your way along Eagle Bay-Meelup Road, stopping at secluded coves and quiet hamlets as you go. If you’re visiting during whale season (typically September to November), keep your eyes on the horizon; humpback and southern right whales are often spotted breaching offshore. The view of the bay and bush behind is equally as eye-pleasing as an ocean horizon, so if you get the chance, don’t miss soaking it all in from boat, kayak or paddle board.

Swim in crystal-clear waters

A long, white sweep of sand lapped by clear, aquamarine water, Eagle Bay is made for quick dips and long swims. Protected by Cape Naturaliste, the bay is often calm, making it a popular choice for families or those who simply want to float and forget the world for a while. Early mornings are especially magical, when the sea is glassy and the light dances across the water.

Meander down winding bush paths

Beyond the shoreline, weaving bush tracks reveal another side of Eagle Bay. Native trees, wildflowers in season and glimpses of blue water through the foliage create a walking experience that feels both secluded and expansive. The walk between Meelup Beach and Castle Rock is particularly scenic – a quiet, undulating coastal trail that rewards you with sweeping ocean views and hidden beaches along the way.

Cast a line

Brought your fishing rod? Whether you’re casting from the beach at dawn or heading out by boat for the day, expect to catch anything from herring and whiting, to snapper and salmon. Do check where and what you can fish before you head out, as the bay is close to sanctuary zones and some fishing bans may apply.

Feast and drink

While Eagle Bay itself remains blissfully low-key, you’re perfectly positioned to enjoy some of the region’s best food and wine, just a short drive away. We love getting pancakes and feeding the chooks at Meelup Farmhouse, grabbing a beer or two, with a side of truffle popcorn, at Eagle Bay Brewing Co, and savouring a glass of wine and stunning ocean views from Wise Wine. Further afield, you’ll find plenty to eat in Dunsborough’s town centre, as well as Yallingup, Busselton and Cowaramup. But, of course, if it’s too hard to part with the ocean’s deep blue hues, it’s just as easy to pack a picnic and kick back and relax, too.
