Your guide to Eagle Bay

A beachside hamlet perfect for privacy and relaxation

There are some places on earth that words and photos simply do not do justice and must be seen with your own eyes. Eagle Bay is one of those locations.

This quiet beachside hamlet is a short drive from Dunsborough; far enough away to be secluded, but close enough to all the attractions of the region. On one side, there is the to-die-for beach with its crystal-clear water and long stretches of sand you just want to run and sink your toes into. To the other side lies the pristine natural bushland of Meelup Regional Park, and in yet another direction is the softly rippling hills dotted with farms and popular eateries.

It’s time to take a deeper dive into Eagle Bay.

What to do in Eagle Bay

Beautiful bays and beaches

  • The main beach at Eagle Bay is simply gorgeous. Think of those beaches that feature in holiday billboards: long stretches of pale buttercream-coloured sand and calm aqua waters for those leisurely holiday swims. The main bay also lends itself perfectly to long dreamy walks at sunset as the sky is splashed with red, orange and pink.
  • At the far northern end there is a sand boat ramp – a 4WD is required – for launching dinghies and jet skis.
  • Surfers, head along the short coastal track to Rocky Point. This is a lesser-known left-hand break so you can avoid the surfing crowds that are found at nearby beaches.
  • Stroll to Point Picquet at the southern end. With clear turquoise waters, rock pools, snorkelling opportunities and a whale-watching vantage point, it’s well worth the visit.
  • Family-friendly Meelup Beach is just round the corner if you feel like a visit somewhere busier and energetic.

Coastal trails

  • Walk from Castle Rock to Meelup and on to Eagle Bay via a rocky coastal trail, for sensational views. Allow time to take a plunge in the water or snorkel.
  • If you feel so inclined, walk all the way to Bunker Bay along the track or even continue on to Dunsborough and take in some of the incredible scenery. The carpet of flowers during wildflower season is a must-see.
