The best ice cream in the South-West

How do you like your ice cream?

Do you prefer it in a cone, in a cup, on a stick, or in a more-ish sundae? How about a generous scoop on top of a hot, fluffy waffle? Maybe you’re a two-flavour combo fan or your scoop topped with chocolate or peanuts. However you take your ice cream served up, you’ll be able to find it at one of these gourmet ice creameries in WA’s South-West.

Simmo’s Ice Creamery

Named in the top 15 ice creameries in the world by USA Today, this award-winning father and son business is a year-round hit in the South-West. A short drive from Dunsborough, Simmo’s has a choice of 60 flavours, with new ones added regularly. Opt for a regular flavour or try a different one, like banoffee pie, strawberry Cointreau cheesecake or white choc maltese. Head out the back to the grassed area where the kids can play on the fort, chat to Edward the friendly resident Emu (caution – he likes ice cream), have a family BBQ or take in a game of mini golf. You can also order takeaway tubs for home.

Where: 161 Commonage Rd, Quindalup (a short drive from Dunsborough)

They also have a mobile scooping cart for hire, plus a dozen flavours available to take home in tubs. At the farm café there are also milking demonstrations and birthday party availabilities.

Gelato Buonissimo

The rumours are true: there is an authentic Italian gelato store right in the heart of Busselton. The flavours are simple and classic – think cherry, mint or pistachio – but they’re done exceedingly well. If you want something different, try the bestseller flavour bomb that is local honey with rosemary and orange zest. There is also a selection of ice cream (and cones) for those with a gluten or lactose intolerance. Made with locally sourced produce with a seasonal approach to their dairy-free sorbetti made in-store daily by owner Andy. Gelato lovers be forewarned though: you may somehow find yourself in line the following day with a new flavour on you mind.

Where: 32 Queen Street, Busselton
